چکیده

Traffic systems are discrete systems that can be heavily populated. One way of overcoming the state explosion problem inherent to such heavily populated discrete systems is to relax the discrete model. Continuous Petri nets (PN) represent a relaxation of the original discrete Petri nets that leads to a very compositional and efficient formalism to model traffic behaviour in between intersections. This paper introduces some new features of continuous Petri nets that are useful in order to obtain realistic but compact models for traffic systems. Combining these continuous PN models with discrete PN models of traffic lights leads to a hybrid Petri net model that is appropriate for predicting traffic behaviour, and for designing traffic light controllers that minimize the total delay of the vehicles in the system.

An urban traffic network model via coloured timed Petri nets

This paper deals with modelling of traffic networks for control purposes. A modular framework based on coloured timed Petri nets is proposed to model the dynamics of signalized traffic network systems: places represent link cells and crossing sections, tokens are vehicles and token colours represent the routing of the corresponding vehicle. In addition, ordinary timed Petri nets model the signa...

An extension of high-level Petri nets for modelling batch systems

This paper deals with the modelling of batch systems by means of high-level Petri nets. Batch systems are systems that transform a continuous raw material through continuous equipment (as heat exchanger for example) and batch equipment (for instance, batch reactor). These systems are frequently used by chemical of food industry. Batch systems deal with concurrent activities and resource allocat...

Modeling of Continuous Systems Using Modified Petri Nets

Due to the changes which may occur in their parameters, systems are usually demonstrated by some subsystems for different conditions. This paper employs Modified Petri Nets (MPN) to model theses subsystems and makes it simple to analyze them. In this method, first, the continuous transfer function is converted to a discrete transfer function and then, by MPN, system is modeled and analyzed. All...

Continuous and timed Petri nets for the macroscopic and microscopic traffic flow modelling

Traffic flow can be considered as a hybrid system which is characterized by two major behaviours: continuous ones in motorways and discrete ones in road junctions. We propose a modelling approach based on Petri nets. For this purpose, places of Petri nets stand for the road sections and transitions describe the flow between two consecutive sections and at intersections. Thanks an adaptive spati...

M–timed Petri Nets, Priorities, Preemptions, and Performance Evaluation of Systems

In M–timed Petri nets, firing times are exponentially distributed random variables associated with transitions of a net. Several classes of M–timed Petri nets are discussed in this paper to show increasing “modelling power” of different nets. Conflict–free nets can model M and Ek–type queueing systems. Free—choice nets can also represent Hk–type systems. Systems with several classes of users an...
